Polsbury Palermo RNF

Polsbury Palermo, 16x20 Oil on Canvas

Today I am proud to share with you my completed painting of New Forest Pony Stallion, Polsbury Palermo. I have put a great deal of time into his painting. Signing it marks certain closure for me.  I feel the painting captures the softness of his soul, yet maintains his masculinity through his pose and palette.

If you missed when I blogged about meeting this wonderful stallion, you can read it here. You can also see the creation of the painting on my Facebook Page here.

Thank you ~

A Chestnut Gelding Named Justin

June 29, 2011

Some behind the scenes sleuthing went into my latest commission off the easel.  Justin, an Arab X gelding, is owned and loved by a recent university graduate. Her mother secretly arranged our photo-shoot, selected the studies and subsequently arranged a surprise presentation of the completed painting! This was a graduation gift to Una from her family. A feel good project all around, Justin’s owner was thrilled with her painting. Thanks Una, enjoy ALWAYS 🙂

Here is how the project evolved:

Sketch Study #1:

Oil Sketch Study of Justin, 8x10 oil on canvas

Study #2:

Alla Prima Oil Painting of Justin, 8x10 Oil on Canvas

The glow, unique pose and likeness in study #2 of Justin lead us to choosing this layout & palette for his final portrait. To be completed using several layers of glazes and smooth details.  Here is the final product:

'Justin' Final, 14x18 Oil on Canvas
